Coming together October 29th to provide free supplies and services to the community!
With food insecurity up over 27% in the last two years, across Texas, 1 in 6 families in Dallas find themselves challenged, at times, to access basic needs including food for themselves and their families.
What is a Pet Pantry?
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, food insecurity is up 46%. This impacts many aspects of our lives, including the pets we love. In response to this new reality, many organizations have opened and expanded pet pantry programs.
Keep Dallas Food Bowls Full
On October 29th, Dallas area organizations will come together again to provide essential support to local pet families in need - keeping them together and keeping loved pets out of the shelter.
With food insecurity up over 27% in the last two years across Texas, 1 in 6 families in Dallas have found it difficult to access food, including for their pets. At the first Dallas Pets event in June 2022, volunteers heard the stories of struggle over and over and saw the love and commitment between families and their pets. With over 500 pets provided services, the need was seemingly endless.
Volunteers also heard “thank you so much, we hope you come back” countless times, so that’s exactly what they’re doing - and the great news is, you can help.

Keep Dallas Food Bowls Full
These difficult circumstances can result in families going without, or in some cases, making the difficult decision to relinquish their beloved pet to the shelter - neither being a good option.
Through the services provided by participating organizations and with the generous support of CUDDLY donors, the Dallas Pets Are Family event can help keep beloved pets at home, helping keep families happy and healthy, while also reducing shelter intake and helping ensure that truly homeless animals have the resources and support they need to find new homes.
Across the country, animal shelters are seeing animals stay in care, on average, twice as long as they did pre-pandemic, which means they have more animals in care and more work to do with their already strapped resources.
This initiative helps keep pets with their loving owners so that no family has to give up their beloved companion to a shelter simply due to pet food costs/food insecurity.
With this goal in mind, the Dallas Pets Are Family event is employing a holistic approach, with organizations bringing different things to the table to support pet families:
Dallas Animal Services and Friends of Dallas Animal Services, along with Dallas Pets Alive! and Operation Kindness will be distributing pet food, as well as treats and cat litter. These supplies are made available through CUDDLY and generous donations from Dallas area residents and beyond.
Spay Neuter Network will provide basic pet wellness services including vaccines and microchips, as well as spay/neuter appointments.
Good Pup is an innovative virtual dog training program, providing access to their services at deeply discounted rates, with full scholarships available.
Dogs Matter will be onsite providing additional support and connection to their services that focus on the intersection of pet care and human health/social services. You can contribute to their program and help support pet families in recovery here.
